Plane and simple, your eBay fees can make or break your eBay business if you are not careful. Before you even consider selling any item on eBay you need to make sure that you are calucating what your eBay fees will cost you. A lot of people decide not sell on eBay simply due to eBay fees, however, this in my opinion is a massive mistake. eBay selling fees is the small cost of putting your items for sale on eBay and if you sell on Amazon you will be charged a lot more than per sale than you would selling on eBay. Also, there may be 0 fees to sell on other platforms such as craigslist, your own website or another third party site but it is a lot more difficult for you to get the type of traffic to your products that you ill need to effectively sell your products.
Your eBay selling fees will come in many different shapes and sizes and I will explain them in more detail.
Your eBay store fees:
Your eBay store fees are the fees that eBay will charge you for owning a store on eBay. Unlike many other third party selling platforms, it is not a requirement for you to open up a store when selling on eBay. There are benefits to setting up an eBay store including unlocking a few features such as your own personalized design, being able to send newsletters to your eBay buyers and creating good till cancelled listings. There are many different eBay stores and depending on which package you choose you can expect to pay varying eBay store fees.
eBay listing fees:
eBay listing fees are the fees that eBay will charge you to actually place an item on eBay for sale. This is charged to you whether your product successfully sells on eBay or not. This may sound harsh, having to pay a fee before your item even sells, however I think it is a good thing. Not only are eBay listing fees pretty cheap, they also create a barrier to entry for other sellers. Think about it, if eBay did not charge a eBay listing fees then anyone could list unlimited amounts of products on eBay for free creating a lot more competition on eBay. eBay listing fees allows sellers to be more selective about how many products they wish to sell on the platform. The amount you are charged as an eBay listing fee will depend on the product you are selling and the category that the product is listed in and these prices always change so keep an eye out for that.
Other eBay seller fees:
As well as these fees there are other eBay seller fees including a percentage fee that you are charged once your product has successfully sold on eBay. You should also account for these other eBay seller fees before even thinking about selling a product on eBay to make sure you make a profit a the end of the day.
eBay and paypal fees:
Ok, here is where it gets a little bit tricky. There is a difference between eBay and paypal fees and you need to understand them properly so you don't get confused. Your eBay fees are the fees we have discussed and they come straight from eBay. Once yu successfully sell your item on eBay the payment is processed through paypal and they take about 2% of the sale. This paypal fee can and will vary so you may need to check their website for the latest figure.
